New Delhi, Sep 1 (FN Representative) Heavy rains lashed the National Capital and its adjoining areas since early Wednesday, leading to an extensive waterlogging and traffic snarls in several parts of the city. Due to waterlogging, the traffic movement at a few stretches was restricted and the Delhi Traffic police advised the people to avoid certain routes. According to the traffic police, traffic movement is closed from Roundabout Samrat towards Bhinder Point due to fallen down of a tree at Kamal Ataturak Marg. “Obstruction in the carriageway from Naraina towards Dhaula Kuan due to heavy water logging. kindly avoid the stretch,” said in a tweet. Traffic movement on Minto Bridge (both carriageway) has been closed due to waterlogging.
“Traffic diverted from Cannaught place towards Barakhamba and traffic coming from Kamla, Market side diverted towards Deen Dayal Upadhyay Road,” police informed. Talking to UNI, the PWD officials said 100-120 waterlogging complaints have been received so far. “We are keeping an eye on the situation and ensuring that people do not face much inconvenience due to waterlogging. We are dealing with waterlogging complaints on priority basis,” PWD official said.
According to Public Works Department officials, waterlogging was reported underneath AIIMS flyover, at Ring Road near Hyatt Hotel, both sides of Savitri flyover, Maharani Bagh, Dhaula Kuan to 11 Murti carriageway, Shahjahan Road, W-Point ITO, Lala Lajpat Rai Marg, and Moolchand underpass, among others. “Pul Pehlad pur, Liberty cinema, Jahangirpuri metro, Azadpur market near Chandni Chowk metro was the wort affected area due to waterlogging,” said the official. According to reports, multiple city roads including state highways and the Delhi-Jaipur were submerged under an average of 3-4 feet of water. The worst-hit areas being the Delhi-Jaipur Expressway (NH48) service lane near Hero Honda Chowk, IffCO Chowk in Gurugram.
