Mumbai, Aug 23 (FN Agency) The BSE Sensex on Monday advanced by 226.47 pts to close at 55,555.79, on the strength of Technology, IT, Telecom and Energy stocks. The Nifty too rose by 45.95 pts at 16,496.45. The Sensex opened in green, rallied by 366 pts at 55,695.84. During the day it spurted 452 pts at 55,781.17, days high before closing at 55,555.79, advancing 226.47 pts from its previous close. Meanwhile, the Sensex fell 89 pts to 55,240.29, days low. The Sensex registered days high and low at 55,781.17 and 55,240.29 pts respectively. The Nifty recorded days high and low at 16,592.50 and 16,395.70 pts respectively.
The sectoral indices like Technology, IT, Telecom and Energy lifted the market up. In scrips, HCL Technology, TCS, Bajaj Finserv, Nestle India and Bharti Airtel supported the market while, selling in M&M, Bajaj Auto, Ultracemco, Powergrid and ITC capped from further gains, broker informed. The Mid Cap declined by 0.90 pc and Small Cap by 1.55 pc. In 30 scrips, 16 advanced while 14 declined. A mixed trend was witnessed in Asian Market today, as China rose by 1.14 pc followed by Taiwan by 0.74 pc and Australia by 0.51 pc. While, Hongkong fell by 0.27 pc and Japan by 2.07 pc.
