Rs 25 cr fine imposed in power theft cases during ongoing raids across Haryana

Chandigarh, Jul 11 (Agency) Haryana Power Minister Ranjit Singh on Sunday said that a fine of about Rs 25.6 crore has been imposed in cases of power theft of more than 13,985 KW which were reported during the ongoing raids across the state. The Power Minister said that a total of 482 teams of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam have been constituted which checked 29,948 power connections. During this, 6,015 power theft cases were reported. He said that 250 teams of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam checked 17,752 electricity connections in zone-1 and zone-2, of which 2,660 cases of power theft were reported. A fine of more than Rs 10.92 crore for power theft of 6177 KW has been imposed on the defaulters.

Similarly, 232 teams of Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitaran Nigam checked 12,196 power connections in Delhi and Hisar zone, where 3,355 cases of power theft were found, due to which a fine of Rs 14.69 crore was imposed on defaulters for a power theft of 7,808 KW, he informed. Mr Singh further informed that during the month of February also raids were conducted by Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam in industrial areas and other places of the state. At that time the teams checked 4,295 power connections, of which 1,411 cases of power thefts were reported. During this, 3,037 KW of power theft was reported. A fine of Rs 5.59 crore was imposed on the defaulters. The Minister said that in order to provide 24-hour power supply to the people of the state, it is necessary to curtail power theft and for this the Department will continue to conduct such raids.
