Active Covid caseload contracts to 4.03 lakh after 138 days

New Delhi, Dec 6 (Agency) India’s total active Covid-19 caseload has seen a significant dip to 4.03 lakh on Sunday — the lowest after 138 days. On July 21, the total active cases were pegged at 4,02,529. While 482 case fatalities were reported in the past 24 hours, 36,011 persons in India were found to be infected with Covid and the total recovered cases have crossed 91 lakh, an official release here said.

Continuing with the trend of the past nine days, India has reported more daily recoveries than daily new cases during the past 24 hours reflecting a continuous contraction of India’s active caseload which at present consists of just 4.18 per cent of the total positive cases. About 41,970 new recoveries were registered during the same period and led to a net decline of 6,441 in the total active cases. At 186, new cases per million population in India in the past seven days was among the lowest in the world. The difference in new recoveries outnumbering new cases also buoyed the recovery rate to 94.37 per cent today. There were a total of 91,00,792 recovered cases and the gap between recovered and active cases, was steadily increasing and stood at 86,97,544. As many as 76.6 per cent of the new recovered cases were concentrated in 10 states/UTs.

Maharashtra has reported the maximum number of single day recoveries with 5,834 newly recovered cases followed by Kerala with 5,820 new recoveries and Delhi 4,916 new recoveries. Ten states/UTs accounted for 75.70 per cent of the new cases with Kerala reporting the highest daily new cases at 5,848, Maharashtra 4,922 new cases and Delhi recording 3,419 new cases. Of the 482 case deaths reported in the past 24 hours, 10 states/UTs accounted for 79.05 per cent of new deaths led by Maharashtra which saw the maximum casualties — 95. Delhi and West Bengaled follow with 77 and 49 daily deaths, respectively. However, the daily registered deaths per million population during the past week when compared globally demonstrate that India has one of the lowest at 3 deaths/million population.
