Two arrested for chain snatching

Palghar, Jun 20 (Agency) The MBVV (Mira-Bhayander Vasai Virar) police have arrested two notorious criminals in connection with the case of alleged chain snatching in March. The two suspects entered an ice-cream parlour of the complainant, Anju Prajapati, at Naigaon town of the district on evening of March 24, at around 2100 hours, on the pretext of buying the ice creams, police said on Saturday. While one of them kept the shop owner lady busy in discussion and when she bent to take the ice-cream out, his accomplice pulled her chain and escaped on a scooter.

An offence under sections 392 and 34 of Indian Penal Code was registered following the incident. Police, probing the crime, worked on various possibilities and finally arrested the two accused recently. They have been identified as Shahnavaz alias Sonu Fakruddin Shaikh (25) and Sachin Valodra (23, both from Vasai town and history-sheeters). Police have recovered stolen chain of 15 gm from them and also the scooter worth Rs 80,000 used in the crime. With the duo’s arrest, police have detected two crimes and recovered stolen goods collectively worth Rs 1.20 lakh, besides the scooter. Further investigation is underway, sources added.
