Chennai, Dec 28 (FN Agency) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday evening met newly crowned King of 64 Squares World Champion D Gukesh and described him as India’s pride. Mr Modi said he had an excellent interaction with Chess champion and his confidence was truly inspiring. In a social media post, Mr Modi, shared a photo of the meeting and wrote “Had an excellent interaction with chess champion and India’s pride, D Gukesh!” “I have been closely interacting with him for a few years now, and what strikes me most about him is his determination and dedication”, he said.
“His confidence is truly inspiring. In fact, I recall seeing a video of his few years ago where he had said he would become the youngest world champion— a prediction that has now clearly come true thanks to his own efforts”, Mr Modi said. At the age of 18, Indian Challenger Gukesh recently became the World’s youngest ever Champion when he dethroned reigning champion China’s Ding Liren winning the crucial 14th and final game in the FIDE World Chess Championship at Singapore. With the scores tied at 6.5 points each and the contest heading for a tie-breaker, Gukesh cashed in on a major blunder committed by the experienced Chinese star on the 55th move, and won the crucial game to annexe the title.
