Srikanth commemorates Thomas Cup feat

New Delhi, May 16 (FN Agency) An elated Kidambi Srikanth commemorated the historic Thomas Cup triumph in a social media post on Monday and called it a result of “pure resilience and mental health”. Taking to Twitter, the 29-year-old shuttler shared a heartfelt note in which he wrote: “The journey to this podium is nothing short of once in a lifetime experience. This has been a result of pure resilience and mental strength. As a sports person. I have seen more losses than wins but this will remain the closest to my heart because of the team and my boys. “They bestowed upon me a great honour and chose me as their captain but I must say I learnt more than I lead this team. I know that the next generation is in safe hands and leadership like we were.” The underdog Indian team blanked 14-time champions Indonesia 3-0 to lift their maiden Thomas Cup trophy.

Reacting to the unprecedented achievement on Sunday, Srikanth said: “Even after leading 2-0, we knew that Indonesia have a strong team and it was important to close out and win those crucial points. “Every win, every achievement has its own uniqueness. India has never won the Thomas Cup before this. Now to be part of a team that has won the Thomas Cup and to contribute to the team’s win gives me a lot of happiness. “Every time you contribute to the team’s win you get a different feeling, especially in a final. I am happy that throughout this tournament I could win my matches and give those crucial points to the team.”
