New Delhi, Sep 17 (UNI) Sridharan Sharath, the former Tamil Nadu left-hander batsman was on Friday appointed as the chairman of India’s junior national selection committee. In a career spanning 15 years, Sharath was the first cricketer from the Tamil Nadu to play 100 Ranji Trophy matches, scoring 8700 runs – including 27 centuries and 42 half-centuries in 139 matches with a highly impressive average of 51.17. He also played over 100 List A games scoring more than 3000 runs. He has also been a BCCI match referee.
The other new committee members are former Punjab off spinning all-rounder Kishan Mohan (North Zone), former Bengal pacer Ranadeb Bose (East Zone), Gujarat wicket-keeper-batsman Pathik Patel (West Zone) and MP all-rounder Harvinder Singh Sodhi (Central). ”Former Tamil Nadu captain Sharath Sridharan will head the committee,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement. The five-member committee take over from the previous committee which was headed by Ashish Kapoor (South), and included Debasish Mohanty (East), Gyanendra Pandey (Central), Rakesh Parikh (West) and Amit Sharma (North).
