Rohit Sharma becomes most-capped men’s T20I player

Dharamsala, Feb 27 (Agency) India skipper Rohit Sharma on Sunday set an all-time record, becoming the most-capped men’s player in T20I cricket. Rohit achieved the feat when he walked out for the toss in the third T20I against Sri Lanka at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium. The 34-year-old overtook Shoaib Malik (124 T20Is) of Pakistan on the elite list by playing his 125th T20I match. Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez (119 T20Is), England’s Eoin Morgan (115 T20Is) and Bangladesh’s Mamudullah (113 T20Is) completed the top five. Rohit is the only Indian male player who has played more than 100 T20Is. MS Dhoni, who retired in 2020, is second with 98 T20Is, followed by Virat Kohli (97 T20Is) on the third spot.

“Without a doubt, one of the greatest white-ball players. Look at his performance as a batter and as a captain. Look at the way, he has changed the fortunes of whichever team he has played for. He will definitely go down as one of the greatest white-ball players. In the last World Cup, he hit 5 hundreds. He will go down as one of the greatest white-ball players ever,” Sunil Gavaskar told broadcaster Star Sports. Rohit, who made his T20I debut during the T20 World Cup in 2007, has scored 3308 runs, including 5 centuries at an average of over 32 in the shortest format of the game.
