Rana Gurmit lays foundation stone of three sports infrastructure projects worth Rs 7.75 Cr in Jalandhar

Jalandhar, Aug 29 (Agency) Giving a massive impetus to the sports ecosystem on the eve of National Sports Day, Punjab Sports and Youth Affairs Minister Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi on Saturday laid the foundation stone of three sports infrastructure projects worth Rs 7.75 crore besides inaugurating Astro Turf at the Lyallpur Khalsa College in Jalandhar. Accompanied by MP Chaudhary Santokh Singh, MLAs Rajinder Beri, Avtar Henry Junior, Mayor Jagdish Raj Raja, MC Councillor Sunita Rinku, Rana Gurmit Singh Sodhi firstly laid the foundation stone of project of renovating table tennis hall in the Hansraj stadium which would cost Rs one crore. He said under the project, LED lighting, new wooden floor, washrooms and changing rooms along with new roof inside the hall would be ensured here within next few months. The Minister later reached the sports college, known as a nursery of international sportspersons and laid the foundation stone of re-laying synthetic athletic track which would be developed for Rs 6.50 crore and up-gradation of the 50-meter swimming pool with Rs 25 lakh.

He said that this would be the first smart synthetic athletic track in Punjab which is being imported from Europe having affiliation with the World Athletic Federation. He said that LED floodlights would also be installed here beside a football ground. The existing swimming pool would be converted with an ultra-modern facility for the players. Later, the Minister also dedicated a six-a-side hockey Astro Turf at local Lyallpur Khalsa College. Addressing the gathering, Sodhi envisioned that the state of the art sports infrastructure would go a long way in producing world-class players from the region. He said that the Punjab government is committed to restoring the glory of Jalandhar by developing world-class sports infrastructure in the city.

He stated that under the leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh, Jalandhar would soon emerge as an excellence of sports in the country adding that the state government has already initiated special projects to uplift infrastructure at Sports College besides launching new innovative courses here. He added that the state government under the visionary and dynamic leadership of Chief Minister Captain Amarinder Singh has been marching ahead in the field of sports. He asserted that in the last four and half years, it has undertaken specialized efforts to uplift the level of sports in the state for which Punjab has come out with a new sports policy.
