Mumbai, April 8 (Agency) Ajinkya Rahane’s blazing half-century and Ravindra Jadeja’s three-wicket haul helped Chennai Super Kings beat Mumbai Indians by seven wickets in the 12th Match of IPL 2023 at the Wankhede stadium. Chasing a target of 158, the Super Kings lost Devon Conway early. Ajinkya Rahane came in and set the Wankhede ablaze with some sparkling shots. The fourth over of the CSK innings, bowled by Arshad Khan, witnessed Rahane at his best. He flicked a delivery down the leg side over square leg for six.
Arshad then bowled a short delivery outside off, and the right-hander cut the ball majestically past point. Rahane then guided the next delivery past short third man for a boundary and followed that up with another cut past point. Then, came another classic shot from Rahane’s blade. To an overpitched delivery from Khan, Rahane struck the ball with the full face of the bat and sent it scorching past mid-off for another boundary. The fourth over read – 6,4,4,4,4,1, as the Super Kings collected 23 runs. Rahane scored a blistering 27-ball 61 to set the tone for his team. The 34-year-old also struck the joint second-fastest IPL fifty (19 balls) ever for CSK in the IPL. After his departure, Ruturaj Gaikwad (40* off 36) and Ambati Rayudu (20* off 16) finished the job as Chennai won with 11 balls to spare. Inserted into bat by the Super Kings, Mumbai Indians posted a total of 157/8 in 20 overs.
Opener Ishan Kishan top-scored for the hosts with a 21-ball 32. Tim David (31 off 22), and skipper Rohit Sharma (21 off 13) also chipped in with cameos to help Mumbai go past the 150-run mark. Left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja was outstanding with the ball, registering figures of 4-0-20-3. His spell helped Chennai fight back after Mumbai posted 61/1 in the Power Play. Tushar Deshpande and Mitchell Santner picked up two wickets each.
