Lausanne (Switzerland), April 10 (Representative) The Indian women’s FIH Pro League matches against England, which were postponed due to Covid and injury issues in the English side, have been cancelled, the International Federation of Hockey said. The Indian team has now been awarded six points for the two cancelled matches, which was initially scheduled to take place on April 2 and 3 but were postponed.
“The FIH Hockey Pro League matches between India and England (Women), initially scheduled on 2 and 3 April in Bhubaneswar, India, but postponed due to a high number of Covid cases and injuries affecting the English team, will unfortunately be cancelled, eventually,” FIH said in a statement on Saturday. “Indeed, despite all efforts from the Hockey India, England Hockey and FIH, no dates could be found to reschedule the matches in India. Consequently, it has been agreed between the FIH and the 2 nations that the 6 points available for these 2 matches will be awarded to India,” it added. After being awarded with 6 points India jumped to no 1 spot in the team standings with 22 points surpassing Olympic champions Netherlands, who are placed second with 19 points to their name.
