PM extends best wishes to Indian contingent on beginning of Paralympics Games

New Delhi, Aug 24 (Agency) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday extended his best wishes to the Indian contingent at the beginning of Paralympics Games in Tokyo. The 2020 Paralympic Games kicked off in Tokyo on Tuesday with the traditional opening ceremony amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. “As the @Paralympics begin, my best wishes to the Indian contingent. We are proud of all the athletes representing our nation at the #Paralympics,’ Mr Modi said in a tweet.

PM had also interacted with the para-athletes before their departure for the Games. India will be represented by 54 athletes at the Tokyo Paralympics, the country’s biggest ever contingent at the Summer Games. All 54 athletes, who are part of the Target Olympic Podium Scheme (TOPS) scheme, will compete in 9 sports disciplines including archery, athletics (Track and Field), badminton, swimming, weightlifting among others.
