Cuttack, Jan 28 (Agency) Malvika Bansod and Ashmita Chaliha continued their winning run at the BWF Odisha Open and progressed to the semifinal on Friday. Malvika eased past Tanya Hemanth 21-13, 16-21, 21-17, while Chaliha defeated Rhucha Sawant 21-17, 21-15 in the quarterfinals.
The 20-year-old Malvika will face Unnati Hooda, who outplayed Samiya Imad 21-10, 21-15 to seal her spot in semifinal. Chaliha will be up against Smit Toshniwal, who defeated Rhucha Sawant 21-17, 21-15. In the men’s singles, Kiran George defeated third seed Shubhankar Dey 21-16, 10-21, 21-19. Priyanshu Rajawat also advanced to the semifinal with a 13-21, 21-14, 21-8 win over Mithun Manjunath.
In the mixed doubles, MR Arjun and Treesa Jolly progressed to the semifinal with straight sets 21-12, 21-7 win over Nazir Khan and Nila Valluvan. Other mixed duo of Balkeshari Yadav and Swetaparna Panda defeated Rahul Kumar Shah and Rudrani Jaiswal 21-12, 21-12 and moved to the semifinal.
Sri Lankan mixed duo of Sachin Dias and Thilini Hendahewa beat S. Sunjith (Jr) and Mehreen Riza, 21-11, 22-20. In the men’s doubles, Ravikrishna P S and Sankar Prasad registered 21-18, 21-18 victory over the pair of Shyam Prasad and S. Sunjith (Jr). Other matches, Malaysia’s Nur Mohd Azriyn Ayub Azriyn and Lim Khim Wah beat Tushar Sharma and Vinay Kumar Singh 21-18, 21-16.
In the women’s doubles, the duo of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand outshined Vaishnavi Khadkekar and Ellora Koner, 21-7, 21-3. Other matches, Sanyogita Ghorpade and Shruti Mishra defeated Atmajayita Ray Barman and Samiaa Shah, 21-5, 21-7. Arul Bala Radhakrishnan and Nila Valluvan beat Rudrani Jaiswal and Anees Kowsar, 21-11, 21-3.
