Bhubaneswar,July 20 (FN Agency ) The BJP government in Odisha has renamed the ‘Biju Patnaik Sports Award’ as ‘Odisha Rajya Krida Samman’. A notification issued by the Sports and Youth Services department on Friday said the state government will confer Rajya Krida Samman in eight categories subject to availability of suitable candidates. The Biju Patnaik Sports Award scheme was launched by Naveen Patnaik government in 2001-2002. The award was instituted by the Sports & Youth Services Department, Government of Odisha to commemorate the yeoman service of late Biju Patnaik, the ex-Chief Minister of Odisha, towards the development of Sports & Games in the State.
The award is given to the sportspersons of Odisha who have not only good performances at the National and International levels but also have continued to contribute to the promotion of sports and games in his/her individual capacity even after retirement from an active sporting career The new notification said the Odisha Rajya Krida Samman will be presented to the sports personalities in eight categories. They are Samman for Life-time Achievement for promotion of Sports and Games, which will carry a cash awardaward of Rs. 3,00,000.
Samman for Outstanding Performance in Sports and Games for the year, which will carry a cash award of Rs. 2,00,000. Samman for Excellence in Coaching ,which will carry a cash award of Rs 1,00,000. Samman for Best Contribution for Promotion of sports and games, which will carry a cash award of Rs. 1,00,000. The Samman for excellence in Sports Journalism, Samman for Para-Sports person of the year, Samman for Upcoming Athlete of the Year (Junior Category), Samman for Sports Technical Official(s)/Support Staff of the year, will each carry a cash award of Rs. 1,00,000,the notification said. It said the recipients will be honoured with the cash award along with other deliverables as approved by the Odisha Government.
