New Delhi, Nov 21 (FN Agency) The national capital will play host to the 34th All India Postal Wrestling championship, which will commence from November 22. Tokyo Olympic Bronze medallist wrestler Bajrang Punia and Indian Olympic Coach Anil Mann will grace the opening ceremony as Chief Guest at the event, which will be held at K D Jadhav Hall, Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. Eleven postal circles across the nation, including Delhi, will take part in the event. Total 98 wrestlers, including state and national level wrestlers, will feature in the inter-departmental meet.
For the first time in the history of Postal Wrestling Championship, women wrestling has been inducted in the tournament. In the press conference held ahead of the event, Postmaster General of Delhi Circle, Ashok Kumar emphasised on the importance of sports as an integral part of National Education Policy. “When the sporting event achievements of an athlete are announced, it inspires others to include sports in their life. This tournament is a way of assuring our athletes and coaches that the Department of Post is always there to support them,” said the Postmaster General. Keeping in mind all the Covid-19 protocols, the tournament will take place behind closed doors. “The main objective of the tournament is to create awareness among the athletes about the country’s rich sporting history, centuries-old indigenous sports and our national and regional sporting heroes,” Kumar added.
