Jammu, Sep 30 (Agency) Adding yet another feather to the medal tally, the Jammu and Kashmir sabre women team clinched bronze medal in the discipline of fencing in the ongoing 36the National Games in Gandhinagar, Gujarat. The J&K sabre team comprising women champions Shreya Gupta, Kritarthi Kotwal, Rishika Khajuria and Jaspreet Kour defeated opponents from host Gujarat team 45-41 to claim the medal. In the semifinal bout, J&K lost to Tamil Nadu 29-45. Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the National Games on Thursday at a gala opening ceremony.
The J&K Contingent was flagged off by the Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, R R Bhatnagar on September 26 from Jammu. Wishing good luck, he hoped for outstanding performance by the athletes. Secretary, J&K Sports Council, Nuzhat Gul congratulated the team for the performance. “It is just a beginning. Our athletes are outstanding and can excel at any platform,” said Gul and wished all the very best to the contingents from other disciplines as well asking them to make everyone proud. Rachna Jamwal and Shotu Lal of J&K Sports Council have accompanied the fencing team as coaches while Maninder Pal Singh as Manager.
