Bhopal, Sep 28 (Representative) Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Tuesday honoured national women’s hockey team members with Rs 31 lakh each and said that a world-class stadium will be constructed in the state, it was officially learnt. “In-principle approval has been obtained from the Centre for organising the 2022 Khelo India Games here,” he said while addressing the felicitation ceremony at Minto Hall. Prior to this, men’s hockey team member Vivek Sagar was presented an honorarium of Rs 1 crore and granted a dwelling apart from appointment as Deputy Superintendent of Police.
“The women’s team captain Rani Rampal hails from a rather ordinary background, vice-captain Savita struggled and improved her game, Monica’s father wanted her to pursue wrestling, Gurjit Kaur and Nikki Pradhan belong to agrarian households, Salima lived in a Naxalism-affected village, Vandana and Sushila trained in Gwalior while Neha and Udita are from Haryana,” the Chief Minister said. Sports and Youth Welfare Minister Yashodhara Raje Scindia said that 29 feeder centres have been developed, 15 astro-turf facilities exist and a national-level Mallakhamb competition will be conducted in Ujjain in the near future.
