Matthews, Sharma move up in year-end rankings update

Dubai, Dec 31 (Agency) All-rounders Hayley Matthews of the West Indies and Deepti Sharma of India have made significant progress in the ICC Women’s ODI Player Rankings after their ICC Women’s Championship Series in Vadodara that India won 3-0. Matthews, who struck 106 off 109 deliveries in the second match, has advanced six slots to reacha career-best-equalling seventh position in the batting rankings. The West Indies captain is also seventh among bowlers after moving up two places. In the latest weekly rankings update that takes into consideration performances in the last two matches of the series, off-spinner Sharma’s match-winning haul of six for 31 in the final ODI has helped her re-enter the top five in bowling while her unbeaten knocks of 44 and 39 have takenher from 33rd to 30th position in the batting rankings. Matthews and Sharma retain third and sixth positions among all-rounders in the list led by South Africa’s Marizanne Kapp in the last weekly update of the year. Laura Wolvaardt of South Africa and Sophie Ecclestone of England have finished number one in batting and bowling, respectively. Ecclestone has also ended the year as the top bowler in the T20I bowling rankings while Beth Mooney of Australia and Windies skipper Matthews have finished number one in the batting andall-rounders’ lists, respectively.

The ODI Rankings also see some other India players make notable progress. Jemimah Rodrigues is up four places to 22nd after scores of 52 and 29, Richa Ghosh has moved up seven places to 41st with unbeaten scores of 13 and 23 and Harleen Deol is up four places to 54th after notching 115 in the second match and finishing as the highest run-scorer of the series with an aggregate of 160 runs.Seam bowler Renuka Singh Thakur is up three places to 17th after being named the Player of the Series for her 10 wickets in three matches. For the West Indies, Shemaine Campbell is up 13 places to 52nd after scoring 38 and 46 this past week while Chinelle Herny has moved up to 65th position. India are placed third in the ICC Women’s Championship after their 3-0 win over the West Indies. Australia have already assured themselves of the title and are on 39 points after 24 matches. England are second with 32 after 24 matches India on 31 after 21.
