Manika, Sathiyan attain career-best ranking

New Delhi, May 3 (Agency) Indian star paddlers Manika Batra and Sathiyan Gannasekharan have achieved career-best rankings as per the latest updates by International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) on Tuesday. Batra took a 10-spot leap in the women’s singles rankings to be placed at 38, while Sathiyan jumped five spots to sit in 34th position. He has also become the top ranked Indian in the men’s singles, leapfrogging veteran Achanta Sharath Kamal, who also gained a place to be world no. 37. Sharath and Sathiyan are only Indian men ranked inside top-100.

Besides Batra, Archana Kamath, Sreeja Akula and Reeth Tennison are ranked under top-100 women rankings. Kamath climbed 26 places to be at 66th and Akula, who recently won the Senior National Championship, jumped 39 spots and is now ranked 68 in the world. Tennison took a giant leap of 197 spots to take 97th position. The men’s doubles pair of Sathiyan and Harmeet Desai are ranked 28. The team of Sathiyan and Sharath are 35 in the chart. In the women’s doubles, Manika and Archana are ranked 4th while Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee are on 29th place. In the mixed doubles, Manika and Sathiyan achieved career-best ranking of world rank 6 while Manav Thakkar and Archana are ranked 22 in the world.
