Jewish Cricket team to represent India at World Maccabiah Games

Mumbai, June 16 (Agency) Indian Jewish Cricket team will take part at the World Maccabiah Games — biggest International Jewish Sport event in Israel. Originally scheduled for July 2021, the games have been rescheduled Covid-19 pandemic and will take place from the July 12- 26.Consul General of Israel to Mid-West India in Mumbai Kobbi Shoshani on Thursday tweeted: “Yes We Can! The Jewish Cricket Team will fly to Israel to represent India in the the biggest International Jewish Sport event.”

Bring the gold medal to India!” The Maccabiah Games, a prominent international sports competition, often referred to as the “Jewish Olympics” are organized by Maccabi World Union every four years and have become the largest regularly held international event in Israel.

Every four-year, the best Jewish athletes from across the world compete in Open, Masters, Juniors, and Disabled competitions.In July 2017 the Maccabiah hosted 10,000 athletes representing 80 countries, making it the third largest event in the world, behind only the Summer Olympics and the Asian Games.Indian Jews, who number about 5,000-7000, have been participating in the Games since 1953, when a team competed in water polo. They won their first medals in 1957, winning gold in boxing and table tennis. The Indian Jewish cricket team had won a silver in 2009.
