Mumbai, Dec 28 (Agency) Arunkumar Jagadeesh has been appointed Mumbai Assistant Batting Coach of Mumbai Indians, according to the franchise owner. He will work with Kieron Pollard, who was reported as batting mentor in November. Pollard had represented MI in 189 matches since 2009.A right-handed opening batsman and a veteran of over 100 first class games, Arunkumar represented Karnataka in the Indian domestic circuit for 16 years from 1993 to 2008.After retirement, he turned to coaching, and was the batting coach of the Karnataka side when they won their back-to-back titles in the Ranji Trophy, the Irani Cup and the Vijay Hazare Trophy in 2013-14 and 2014-15.
His coaching resume also includes coaching in the IPL, Head Coach of Puducherry for the 2019-20 season, and Head Coach of the United States national cricket team from 2020 onwards. Meanwhile, former New Zealand allrounder Jacob Oram has been appointed MI Cape Town’s bowling trainer ahead of debut SA20 season.Oram, who played 33 Tests, 160 ODIs and 36 T20Is somewhere in the range of 2001 and 2012, likewise played four times of the IPL, in 2008, 2009, 2011 and 2013, wrapping up with Mumbai Indians. A mentor after retirement, Oram’s latest position was as the associate mentor of the New Zealand ladies’ group. Over the last 15 years, Mumbai Indians has emerged as the most consistent cricket franchise maintaining its number uno position with seven titles, which includes a record 5 trophies in IPL and two Champions League T20 titles.
