Kolkata, Sept 10 (Representative) The much-anticipated Indian Super League (ISL) 2024-2025 season kicks off on Friday, promising a season that is set to be bigger, better, and more thrilling than ever before. For the first time in ISL history, the three iconic West Bengal clubs—Mohun Bagan Super Giant, East Bengal FC, and Mohammedan Sporting Club—will face off, reigniting a historic rivalry that has defined Bengal’s sporting culture for over a century. As Indian football enters a new era, the focus turns to West Bengal, where the campaign ‘Gorber Notun Porbo’ (The New Chapter of Pride) celebrates the state’s rich football legacy. When the whistle blows on September 13, West Bengal’s heart will beat as one, with football fans rising from their seats in stadiums, in front of giant screens, and on smartphones, roaring with the state’s characteristic undying passion for the game. This season will not only be about competition between the clubs but also a proud display of footballing supremacy and community pride, showcasing the rich cultural heritage of West Bengal.
While expressing his views on who he thinks will carry the baton for Indian football forward, Mohun Bagan Super Giant star Subhasish Bose quoted, “There are many youngsters in our team like Dippendu (Biswas) who have the talent to make the jump to the first team. We had Kiyan Nassiri earlier, who I believe would do good if he gets more game time. It would be great for the national team if more youngsters do well and get to wear the India jersey and push us forward.”Hyping up the much-anticipated three-way Kolkata Derby that will be on every fan’s mind this season, East Bengal FC captain Cleiton Silva stated, “It’s the most important game in Asia.” It will be a proud display of one-upmanship of one club over the other. And that’s not all, they will also take on teams from across the nation. “Mohammedan wouldn’t want to be behind us, but rather fight it out against us in every game. It’s going to be a very difficult game to play. I am sure they will try to do something special in ISL this season,” added Silva when asked about Mohammedan SC’s inclusion this season. The West Bengal clubs have always stood for more than just football. Bypassing the game, they have become the embodiment of community pride, cultural heritage and the region’s glory.
