Bhubaneswar, Feb 23 (Representative) National 100m record-holder Dutee Chand bettered meet record in the 81st All India Inter-University Athletics (Women) Championship 2021-22 here at the KIIT University. Dutee was the comfortable winner in 11.44 seconds. Along with her, Priya H Mohan of Jain Deemed to be University (400m, 52.58 seconds), Jagadale Komal of Savitribai Phule, Pune (3000m steeplechase, 10.00,23) and Gracena Merly of Manonmaniam Sundaran (high jump 1.84 m) set new meet records on Tuesday. Dutee of the KIIT University, Bhubaneswar, has qualified for the second Khelo India University Games. Madhumita Deb of KIIT University finished sixth in the race and qualified for the 2nd Khelo India University Games. The 4x100M relay teams of KIIT University (Dutee, Madhimita, Riya Kumari and Shatakshi Ray), Utkal University and Sambalpur University qualified for the semifinals to be held tomorrow.
Dutee clocked 11.44 seconds against the old record of 11.56 held in the name of NM Simi of MG University Kotayyam. The new 400 metres record was set by Priya H Mohan of Jain Deemed to be University with a timing of 52.58 second . She broke Anilda Thomas’ record of 52.99 (2005) of MG University Kottayam. Jagadale Komal set a new meet record in 3000 metres steeplechase by clocking 10:00.23 against the previous record of 10:23.66 which was created by Komal Jagadale in 2020. Gracena Merly of Manonmaniam Sundaran erased the high jump record of 1.83 m set in 2018 by Anhel P Devasya of University of Calicut. Gracena Merly cleared the bar at 1.84 m. Meanwhile, Punjabi University of Patiala won the 4th place along with gold and bronze medals in the 20 km Walk. Athlete Baljit won the gold medal with a time of 1.39:10.48s, while Payal won the bronze medal with a time of 1.40:39.89. Punjabi Varsity athlete Jyoti finished fourth with a time of 1.43:57.34 and Shali Dhama won a bronze medal in the 3000m steeplechase race.
