Mumbai, Dec 19 (FN Agency) Delhi’s Yash Dhull on Sunday was named to lead India at the Under-19 Cricket World Cup 2022, which will take place in the West Indies between January 14 to February 5. Dhull will also captain India at the upcoming U19 Asia Cup in the UAE. The tournament will begin on December 23. “The All-India Junior Selection Committee has picked India’s squad for the upcoming ICC Under 19 Men’s Cricket World Cup to be played in the West Indies from 14th January to 5th February 2022 across four host countries,” the BCCI said in a release. The 14th edition of the U19 Cricket World Cup will see 16 teams competing for the trophy. A total of 48 matches will be played.
The format will see the top two teams from each of the four groups advance to the Super League, while the remaining teams feature in the Plate across 23 days of competition. India are the most successful team, having won four titles in 2000, 2008, 2012 and 2018. The men in blue finished as runner-up in the 2020 edition in New Zealand. The Indian cricket board also picked five standby players which includes Rishit Reddy, Uday Saharan, Ansh Gosai, Amrit Raj Upadhyay, and PM Singh Rathore. India, who are placed in Group B, will open their campaign against South Africa on January 15, followed by fixtures against Ireland on January 19 and Uganda on January 22.
