Cali, Dec 2 (Agency) Cuba rose to fifth in the Junior Pan American Games medal table on Wednesday following a series of dominant displays in combat sports. The Caribbean nation clinched four victories each in Greco-Roman wrestling and boxing as well as triumphing in the women’s 800m and men’s long jump. Recipients of the gold medals were Daily Cooper (women’s 800m), Maikel Vidal (men’s long jump), Ewart Marin (boxing, 52kg), Khris Barrera (boxing 75kg), Luis Reynoso (boxing, 81kg), Ronny Alvarez (boxing, 91kg), Jeisser Sampson (Greco, 130kg), Yonat Veliz (Greco, 67kg), Alain Moreno (Greco 77kg), Yan Algudin (Greco, 87kg).
The performances left Cuba fifth in the overall medal standings with 17 gold, 10 silver and eight bronze medals. Brazil leads the table with 39 gold medals, two more than second-placed Colombia. The Unites States is third with 34 golds and Mexico fourth with 30 golds.
