Harare, Oct 11 (Agency) Ireland’s Amy Hunter became the youngest batter to score an ODI century on her 16th birthday, pipping out Mithali Raj who held the previous record of being the youngest to crack a century. She achieved the milestone after she scored a blistering unbeaten 121 off 127 balls in the fourth women’s ODI against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club.
Mithali was 205 days older when she had scored an unbeaten 114 against Ireland on ODI debut 22 years ago. Also, Hunter became the first batter for Ireland to score a century in two decades after Karen Young, who had blasted 120 runs in 2000.The youngster made her international debut during the T20Is against Scotland in May this year, but did not get a chance to bat after a good show put up by the top order. Hunter was also a part of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup Europe Qualifier 2021 held in Spain this year where Ireland finished as runner up and Scotland as champions.
