Madrid, Sept 27 (FN Bureau) Julian Alvarez’s last-minute goal gave Atletico Madrid a 1-0 win away to Celta Vigo, lifting them back to third place in La Liga on Thursday night.Alvarez scored from an Antoine Griezmann curling cross to secure three points for Atletico, despite Celta creating the majority of the chances throughout the game. The hosts were denied by either wayward finishing or saves from goalkeeper Jan Oblak. Villarreal moved up to fourth after two goals from Ayoze Perez helped them come back from a goal down to win 2-1 away to Espanyol.
Jofre Carreras opened the scoring for Espanyol in the first minute of first-half injury time, but Ayoze equalized five minutes later and then netted the winner in the 63rd minute. Espanyol could face a fine after referee Alejandro Quintero Gonzalez was struck by a water bottle thrown from the stands at the end of the game. Fortunately, the official was unharmed. Las Palmas remain without a win after a 1-1 draw at home against Real Betis. Alberto Moleiro put Las Palmas ahead after nine minutes, but Giovani Lo Celso equalized on the stroke of halftime following a counter-attack.On Wednesday, FC Barcelona defeated Getafe 1-0, thanks to a goal from Robert Lewandowski,while Real Madrid won 3-2 at home against Alaves on Tuesday.
