Yogi govt making mockery of rule of law: Mayawati

Lucknow, April 13 (Agency) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) supremo Mayawati on Wednesday accused the Yogi Adityanath government of ignoring the judiciary in the name of crime control in Uttar Pradesh. Mayawati tweeted, “In UP the manner in which the government and the police are working by ignoring the judiciary is not only spiteful, but also makes a mockery of the rule of law. For the rule of law, punishment should be ensured as per the legal process and not by arbitrary actions.”

It may be noted that in a bid to instill fear of law among the criminals the Yogi government has launched a campaign to bulldoze illegal and unauthorised properties which has made an impact in neighbouring Madhya Pradesh. In MP Shivraj government is also using bulldozers against those harming public peace and harmony. Referring to such incidents Mayawati has accused the state governments of BJP of acting out of vengeance. “The manner in which violence disturbed peace and harmony first in Rajasthan and then specially in MP and Gujarat and after which the government prima facie acted out of vengeance is not the right step. Will such examples lead to a ‘New India’?”
