New Delhi, Oct 6 (Agency) Communist Party of India Marxist (CPI-M) leader Sitaram Yechury has demanded the Centre to withdraw central taxes on petrol and LPG after the fuel cost touched a high of Rs 110 per litre on Wednesday. “Withdraw central excise duties on petroleum products immediately,” he posted on Twitter. The former Rajya Sabha MP also called the hike in fuel and gas “atrocious”.
“Prices of petrol, diesel & cooking gas hiked once again. In Mumbai petrol costs Rs.110/ltr, diesel Rs.100/ltr & cylinder costs Rs.900. This is atrocious,” he added. Yechury’s demanded the reduction in central taxes in a bid to provide some relief to the population from soaring prices of petrol, diesel and cooking gas. For the second consecutive day, prices were hiked on Wednesday as international crude oil prices continue to rise. Petrol and diesel rates across the country have been hiked for the second straight day by 30 paise and 35 paise respectively. The highest retail price of petrol was recorded in Rajasthan’s Sri Ganganagar at Rs 114.20.
