Mysuru, May 14 (Agency) As the Congress party finds itself in a tricky situation after registering a thumping victory in Karnataka assembly election, the influential Vokkaligara and Kurubara Sanghas have put pressure on the grand old party to anoint their respective leaders – DK Shivakumar and Siddaramaiah – to occupy the coveted seat of the chief minister. Speaking at an event organised by the Vokkaligara Sangha, Nirmalanandanatha Swami and Nanjavadhoota Swami urged the Congress High Command to name Shivakumar as Karnataka chief minister. “DK Shivakumar ticks all boxes. Everyone knows his struggles. When he cried before the media, there were tears of joy and pain,” Nirmalanandathanatha Swami said, addressing a Vokkaligara Sangha event here.
Simultaneously, there was a meeting by Kurubra Sangha which deliberated upon supporting their tallest leader Siddaramaiah to don the top mantle Nanjavadhoota Swami asked the Congress High Command to declare Shivakumar as the chief minister as he had rallied all communities in favour of the Congress.. Both the seers also stated the Vokkaligas had supported JDS leader HD Kumaraswamy when he was anointed the chief minister. Shivakumar has not made any secret of his ambitions to become chief minister. He did it in the run-up to the election in almost all Vokkaligara platforms and also on Sunnday In the morning he said that he expects the same cooperation from Siddaramaiah when he did not get a minister’s post in the past. SM Krishna was the last chief minister to hail from Vokkaliga community, and that was way back in 1999. UNI BDN SSP
