Tripura Congress protest against price rise & deterioration of law and order

Agartala, April 7 (FN Agency) Tripura Pradesh Congress Committee on Thursday held a rally in the city against price rise of essential commodities and petroleum products, deterioration of law and order situation and alleged failure of the state government to ensure pro-people governance. Party state president Birajit Sinha alleged after elections in five states the price of essential commodities including edibles produced locally has been raising everyday besides petrol, diesel and cooking gas cylinders but the Tripura government is sitting idle to tackle the situation that turned commoners’ life miserable. The situation of Tripura under Biplab Deb in four years became worse than leftist regime. The whole sale market of essential items in Tripura has left out all regulations because of the ruling party’s interest, which in turn leveraged the retail market on common people, Sinha observed. He pointed out that taking the plea of Russia-Ukraine crisis price of fuel; LPG and CNG have increased ever highest in recent times.

With retail prices of petrol and diesel hike, the price of wheat flour, lentils, sugar, and edible oil are also selling at high prices. Surprisingly, the price of locally produced vegetables, lemon and other food items jumped three times. “The BJP is spending it’s energy to persuade RSS agenda and communal philosophy without sparing thought of common people. If the situation continues, it would not take much time for India to become Sri Lanka,” Sinha apprehended adding that whatever social welfare schemes had introduced by Congress was cut short by Modi government to serve the interest of top business conglomerates, even the allocation of MGNRES work reduced to one-third. After the protest rally with all senior party leaders and hundreds of supporters, a delegation met with Director General of Police (DGP) V S Yadav at Police headquarters demanding action against the accused who had attacked opposition parties’ rallies, leaders, MLAs, supporters, journalists and media houses in last two years.

“It appears that Tripura police have become a frontal organisation of BJP and working under the command of Chief Minister violating laws and rules. Not a single BJP man has been booked for attacking and perpetrating violence on the opposition, instead police prefer to harass the opposition supporters and leaders on false cases,” alleged former BJP minister turned Congress Sudip Roy Barman. He warned that Congress would not allow police function as a puppet in the hands of ruling party leaders and no more illegal activities of police and harassment of opposition would be tolerated. If police continue to shield the criminals of BJP shamelessly, the people would not sit idle. Tripura police will be responsible for any civil disobedience, Roy Barman added.
