TMC distancing its from Akhil Giri’s remarks against President

New Delhi, Nov 12 (FN Agency) All India Trinamool Congress (AITC) on Saturday distanced itself from the sexiest remarks made by its MLA Akhil Giri against President Droupadi Murmu and clarified that the party does not condone such statements. In a tweet, the party said, “We have the utmost respect for Hon’ble President of India, Smt. Droupadi Murmu. Our party strongly condemns the unfortunate remarks made by MLA @AkhilGiriAITC and clarifies that we do not condone such statements” It said, “In the era of women’s empowerment such misogyny is unacceptable”.

In a video that has gone viral, the TMC Minister, while addressing people in Nandigram on Thursday, is seen saying “we respect the office of the president. But how does our president look”? Akhil Giri asked a crowd of people. Meanwhile, Bengal BJP MP Saumitra Khan has sought National Commission of Women (NCW) chairperson Rekha Sharma’s intervention in ensuring the arrest of state minister Akhil Giri over his derogatory comments. He has also requested the NCW chairperson to ensure that Giri is also dismissed from his chair as a member of the West Bengal legislative assembly.
