Three-day Congress plenary session in February

New Delhi, Dec 4 (FN Representative) The Congress will hold its 85th plenary session in Chhattisgarh’s Raipur in February next year, senior party leaders said here on Sunday. The decision was taken at the maiden meeting of the Congress Steering Committee, held under the chairmanship of Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge at the party headquarters here, they said. It was also decided to hold a massive campaign , “Haath Se Haat Jodo Abhiyan” across the country following massive response from the public on the ongoing ‘Bharat Jodo Yatra’, they added. “Today, it was decided that there will be a three-day plenary session on second half of February in Chattisgarh’s Raipur . During the plenary session, discussion will be held on various issues,” Congress general secretary in-charge of Organisation KC Venugopal said at a press conference while apprising about the Congress Steering Committee meeting. He informed that the Congress conducts plenary session after party’s presidential election.

Venugopal added, “It was also decided to hold a massive two-month campaign ‘Haath Se Haat Jodo Abhiyan’ from January 26. This will be a clear follow up of the Bharat Jodo Yatra.” As per this campaign, block level padayatra covering all the gram panchayats and booths will be organised across the country, he said. “The party will hand over a letter from Congress MP Rahul Gandhi to the people about the Bharat Jodo Yatra. A ‘chargesheet’ of the Modi government alog with the letter will also be distributed,” the senior Congress leader said. Talking about the Bharat Jodo Yatra, Venugopal said, “The amount of response we are getting from this yatra is beyond political limit.” Apprising the same, Congress general secretary in-charge Communications Jairam Ramesh said, “The Committee unanimously resolved that the 85th plenary session of the Congress will be held at Raipur in the second half of February.” Meanwhile, the Congress Steering Committee in a statement said, “The Indian National Congress has a critical role to play in finding solutions to these challenges.” It also called upon every Congressman and Congresswoman to work with unity, faith, determination, and a sense of collective purpose.

“ The victory of the party will be the victory of every leader and karyakarta and a victory for the idea of India that guided our freedom movement and is enshrined in our Constitution,” the statement said. Earlier, the Congress president in his opening remarks at the meeting, said, “I believe that the biggest part of our responsibility towards the party & the country is organisational accountability from top to bottom.’” “If the Congress organisation is strong, accountable, lives up to the expectations of the people, then only we will be able to win elections and serve the people of the country,” Kharge said. Former Congress president Sonia Gandhi, former Union Minister P Chidambaram , among others attended the meeting.
