Kolkata, Mar 20 (FN Agency) Opposition leader in the West Bengal Legislative assembly Suvendu Adhikari on Sunday slammed the Mamata Banerjee led Trinamool Congress after a BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar escaped unhurt a bomb attack on him at Simultala in the Hooghly district on Saturday evening. “ I was returning after watching ‘The Kashmir Files’. A bomb was hurled at my car on my way back, we escaped it (bomb) narrowly. We pulled out the car a little far to see…police came after 10 minutes,” alleged Jagannath Sarkar, who represent the Ranaghat Lok Sabha seat in Nadia district. ” The attack on the Ranaghat MP is an addition to the latest trend of targeting Elected Representatives in WB.
How would the general public rely on the State Administration which can’t even ensure security of Councillors, MLAs & MPs?” BJP MLA from Nandigram Suvendu Adhikari questioned. His reference was also to a series of recent shootouts in different parts of Bengal where newly elected TMC Councillors Anupam Dutta and Tapan Khendu were shot dead. TMC councillor from Panihati municipality Anupam Dutta in North 24 Parganas and Jhalda’s Congress councillor Tapan Kandu in Purulia were shot dead in two hours on Sunday, (March 13). Additionally, there were reports of shootings in the city and in Panihati in the past 24 hours, in the latter case a TMC employee was killed. BJP MP Jagannath Sarkar was attacked near Simultala; under Haringhata PS, as the bomb was hurled at his vehicle.
He was returning home after watching ‘The Kashmir Files’. Law & order is nonexistent in WB & criminals are roaming free carrying out unrestrained violence,” Adhikari said. Sarkar alleged that the law and order situation deteriorated in the state under Mamata Banerjee-led government and demanded the President’s rule should be imposed immediately before the situation went out of hand. “No one is secure in Bengal as the law and order situation has worsened in the state. Democracy has been toppled by the state government,” Sarkar claimed. “Article 356 (President’s rule) should be imposed to prevent the prevailing situation (deteriorating law and order) in the state. Otherwise, it won’t stop,” the BJP MP added.
