SP always ignored weaker sections: Mayawati

Ghaziabad, Feb 3 (Agency) Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Mayawati on Thursday branded the Samajwadi Party anti-Dalit and said its previous governments always ignored the weaker sections of the society. Addressing an election rally here, Mayawati said: “SP has always disrespected saints, gurus and great people of Dalit and tribal community. The SP government had always ignored the weaker sections of the society.” Mayawati alleged that whenever the SP was in power, criminals, mafias and anti-social elements ruled Uttar Pradesh.

“Due to this tension riots took place every second day during SP regime in the name of caste and religion. All development work in the state was limited to a particular area and caste.” She said the SP always meted step motherly treatment to Dalits and most backwards. “What to say about giving respect, SP has always disrespected the saints, gurus and great people of Dalit community. She said when the BSP came to power it made a provision for reservation in government contracts for SC and STs. “But when the SP came to power it abolished this. It opposed the bill for reservation in promotion, SP MPs tore the bill and did not let it pass it in Parliament.

” At the same time, she accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of promoting casteism, capitalism and implementing a narrow agenda of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS). The BSP chief said that crime has increased during BJP rule. “In fact Dalit women are not at all safe in the BJP government. The poor, workers, unemployed, Dalits, OBCs, tribals, Muslims and other religious minorities are not getting proper benefit of the government schemes,” she said. She said Dalits and OBCs were not getting full benefit of reservation. “As major works in this government are being given to the private sector, the deserving community is not getting advantage of the reservation. Even the quota in government jobs has not been filled,” she said.
