RS adjourned till Mar 13 amid Opposition’s uproar

New Delhi, Feb 13 (Agency) Rajya Sabha was adjourned on Monday till March 13, amid Opposition’s uproar over the suspension of Congress MP Rajni Patil, and Hindenburg Research report on the Adani group. With this, the first phase of the Budget session in the Upper House came to an end. Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar adjourned the House shortly after the commencement of the Question Hour, following Opposition members’ sloganeering.

“The House stands adjourned, to meet on Monday ( March 13, 2023) at 1100 hours,” Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankar said. Earlier, the Chairman adjourned the House till 1150 hours, amid uproar by the Opposition on the same. “The people of the country want debate, discussion and deliberation in the House. I appeal to the members to permit me to take the list of businesses,” Dhankar said. BJP’s Leader of the House in the Rajya Sabha charged the Opposition of repeatedly disrupting the proceedings and termed it as an “insult to the Upper House.” “If this is going to be the behaviour which is shown to the rest of the country and the world, it is truly an ‘insult’ to the House,” Goyal said, amid sloganeering from the Opposition members over the Adani Group issue and suspension of Congress MP Rajni Patil. Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha and Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge also raised the issue of suspension of its MP Rajni Patil besides ‘expunction’ of some of his speech in the Upper House last week. The Chairman objected to Kharge’s remarks to the ‘Chair’ and the ‘government’ and said,” You have indicated in many words that the Chair is acting under ‘pressure’. These are ‘expunged. Nothing will go on record.”
