Rahul slams Modi govt over China’s upgrading infrastructure at LAC

New Delhi Nov 12 (Representative) Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Friday slammed the government on the India-China border situation, including infrastructure upgradation at the Line of Actual Control (LAC) and said the Modi government has “no strategy” to deal with the situation. In a post on micro-blogging site Twitter, Rahul posted, “Our national security is unpardonably compromised because the GOI has no strategy and Mr 56 inch is scared. My sympathies lie with the Jawans, who guard our borders risking their lives, while the Centre lies through its teeth.”

Rahul’s remarks came after Chief of Defence Staff General Bipin Rawat on Thursday, participating at the Times Now Summit 2021, claimed “China has only upgraded infrastructure along the border, and new villages have not come up.” He also asserted that China has not transgressed the Indian “perception” of the LAC. His statement was seen as a contradiction to the official position of the Ministry of External Affairs, which has said “India never accepted China’s illegal occupation of its territories.” In its recent report, the US Department of Defence said China built a large village inside the “disputed territory” between its Tibet Autonomous Region and India’s Arunachal Pradesh in the eastern sector of the LAC.
