Rahul condemns attack on Cong leader, workers in Tripura

New Delhi, June 26 (Representative) Congress MP Rahul Gandhi on Sunday condemned the alleged attack on its Tripura unit president Birajit Sinha and party workers by BJP workers after the announcement of results of the assembly bye-elections to four seats. “I strongly condemn the vicious attack on our leaders and workers by BJP goons following Congress’ win in the Agartala bypoll. The people are with us. Shameful that the police stood as mute spectators instead of stopping the attack.

These BJP goons must be brought to justice,” he wrote in a tweet. Out of the four Assembly constituencies, the ruling BJP won three seats, while Congress one. Among the prominent winners include Chief Minister Manik Saha from Town Bardowali constituency and Congress’ Sudip Roy Barman from Agartala seat. Meanwhile, Barman said, “With in an hour of the victory, the BJP attacked the party office of an Opposition and attempted to kill its president in broad daylight in presence of the police. This clearly indicated their nervousness.”
