New Delhi, Feb 1 (FN Bureau) Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Saturday termed the Union Budget presented by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as “A band-aid for bullet wounds”. Taking to his social media handle X, Gandhi said, “Amid global uncertainty, solving our economic crisis demanded a paradigm shift. But this government is bankrupt of ideas”. “A band-aid for bullet wounds!,” he said. Meanwhile, party general secretary KC Venugopal said that the government for the last 11 years had only tried to “hoodwink the public by giving empty slogans, with no vision or relief for the poor and marginalised sections of society”.
He alleged that there was “no vision for job creation, no improvement in investment climate, no MSP guarantee for farmers and no strategy to curb massive inflation”. Venugopal further alleged that this Budget was an attempt to “destroy MGNREGA as the Centre failed to increase the budget allocated for the scheme”. The Alappuzha MP said, “The Budget has sent a message that this government is only capable of indulging in election-related gimmicks for their politics, but cannot address the severe economic distress being experienced across the country today”.
