Priyanka leads march on Women’s Day

Lucknow, March 8 (Agency) Congress General Secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Tuesday led an impressive ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon’ march organised by the party to mark the International Women’s Day here. Thousands of people, specially women and children, participated in the march which started from Gomti Nagar area. The enthusiastic participants held placards of ‘Ladki Hoon, Lad Sakti Hoon’ and raised slogans of women empowerment.

As the march passed through Balu Adda, Dalibagh Colony and Rana Pratap Marg, Priyanka Gandhi mingled with the women and got selfies clicked with the eager participants. Covering a distance of almost three kilometers in an hour, the march culminated at the Sikander Bagh crossing where Priyanka Gandhi garlanded a statue of freedom fighter Uda Devi. All 159 female candidates, who the party fielded in Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, were called to participate in the march. Besides, women representatives from other states were also invited. The Congress had given 40 per cent of election ticket to female candidates in Uttar Pradesh.
