New Delhi, Sep 24 (Agency) Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Friday accused the BJP government at the Centre of pushing 23 crore people of the country into ‘poverty’, adding that growth of income in Uttar Pradesh has also gone down. “BJP government at the Centre has pushed 23 crore people of the country into poverty. Income of 97 percent of the people of the country has decreased under this government,” Gandhi wrote in a tweet in Hindi. The senior Congress leader, who has been leaving no stone unturned to strengthen the grand old party in UP ahead of the 2022 Assembly polls, further claimed,” Under the BJP government, the rate of increase in per capita income in UP has come down to less than half.”
Reserve Bank of India figures quoted by the Congress leader showed the growth rate of per capita income in Uttar Pradesh between 2013-2017 was at five per cent. It went down to three per cent in between 2018-2020, which also included the pandemic period, and the forecast in the chart says it is likely to be down to 1.8 per cent between 2018-2022, less than national average of 2.7 per cent. “Growth of per capita income in Uttar Pradesh has gone down to less than half. Only the false propaganda of BJP is growing,” she said. Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had also slammed the state government over the figures earlier.
