Puducherry, June 8 (Agency) Employees of the Puducherry Electricity Department on Wednesday began a five-day relay fast in protest against the privatization of Electricity Distribution Company (Discom) in the Union Territory by the Centre. It may be noted that the Union government had taken a decision to privatize the Discoms in all the Union territories across the country.
In spite of agitation by the employees and political parties, the NR Congress-BJP government gave approval to the proposal and informed the Centre. To protest this ,the employees of the department Division-2 went on a mass casual leave and started the relay fast in front of the department head office at Vambakeerappalayam here. Following this, works in the second division was totally affected. On Thursday, Employees from another division will join the fast till Tuesday next.
