New Delhi, June 27 (Agency) Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday said the upcoming Presidential election is not a fight between two individuals but an ideological struggle.Rahul Gandhi’s remarks came after the opposition’s presidential candidate Yashwant Sinha filed his nomination papers at Parliament house. He said all the opposition parties unitedly supported Sinha for the presidential election but the real fight is between the two ideologies. “It is a fight against the RSS ideology of anger and hatred and the other ideology of compassion,” Rahul Gandhi told the media.
During the nomination, Sinha was accompanied by Rahul Gandhi, NCP’s Sharad Pawar, SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, RLD chief Jayant Chaudhary, National Conference leader Farooq Abdullah, Trinamool Congress leader Saugata Roy and others. Telangana Rashtra Samithi leader KT Rama Rao was also present. Welcoming the candidature of Sinha, Saugata Roy said he was the best candidate for the post of president.CPI(M) General secretary Sitaram Yechury said that as the fundamental rights of the people have been compromised in all fronts, “it’s important for the opposition to come together to support Sinha”.Voting for the president will be held on 18 July and the votes will be counted on July 21. Sinha will contest against Bharatiya Janata Party-led National Democratic Alliance candidate Draupadi Murmu.
