PM’s assurance on doubling farmers’ income a “Jumla”: Congress

New Delhi, Jan 2 (FN Agency) Congress on Friday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s announcement over doubling farmers’ income has proved to be a “Jumla”. “Today is January 2, 2022. Today Modi ji is in Meerut, the capital of farmers. Please tell, Did farmers’ income “double”?,” Congress Spokesperson Randeep Singh Surjewala said, in a tweet. Congress reaction came after the Prime Minister on Friday laid the foundation stone of Dhyan Chand Sports University in Meerut and said while addressing the gathering that through the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi, lakh of farmers in UP have benefited from the scheme.

“On 28 February 2016 in Bareilly, U.P, PM promised to double the income of farmers by the year 2022. This too has now proved to be a “Jumla”. PM should apologize to the farmers,” Surjewala said. Modi on Saturday released over Rs 20,900 crore to more than 10.09 crore farmers across India as the 10th installment of financial aid under the PM-KISAN scheme. Under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, a financial benefit of Rs 6,000 per year is provided to the eligible farmer families, payable in three equal installments of Rs 2,000. The money is transferred directly to the bank account of the beneficiaries. During the virtual event, the Prime Minister also released an equity grant of more than Rs 14 crore to about 351 Farmer Producer Organisations (FPOs), benefiting 1.24 lakh farmers.
