PM Modi only spreading lies and misleading country: Kharge

New Delhi, July 3 (Representative) Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge on Wednesday justified the walkout by INDIA bloc parties from the upper house and slammed Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of lying all the time and misleading the people and the country. Addressing the media at the Parliament premises after the walkout, Kharge accompanied by several leaders including Sonia Gandhi, Sharad Pawar and Manoj Jha said, “We (INDIA bloc) walked out of the house as the Prime Minister made some false statements in the house while replying to the motion of thanks on the President’s address. It has now become a habit for the Prime Minister to speak lies all the time and confuse the people”. Criticising Modi for labeling Congress as anti-Constitution, Kharge said, “You did not write the Constitution, neither you were a part of it. You were against it throughout the process of writing and now you are saying that you are the protector of the Constitution”. “I just wanted to put in front of him as to who wrote the Constitution and who protected it,” the Congress President said. Kharge alleged that the party which had rejected the Constitution of the country and had been against it since its birth was today saying that that they were protecting the Constitution while accusing the grand old party of being against the Constitution.

He further said, “It was the same organization that had burnt the effigies of Ambedkar ji and Nehru ji at the Ramlila Maidan and today they are accusing us of being anti Constitution”. Kharge also attacked the Prime Minister for spreading false information about Baba Saheb Ambedkar saying that the Congress did not give due respect to Ambedkar, adding that “the reality is just the opposite”. He said that he wanted to counter all the false narratives of the Prime Minister but was not given a chance to speak. “I had been raising my hand. I even requested the Prime Minister but he did not listened,” Kharge claimed. “We condemned this and walked out of the House, when our words don’t have any value then what is the use of sitting there,” the senior Congress leader said. Meanwhile, NCP (Sharad) chief Sharad Pawar said that the LoP Rajya Sabha was holding a Constitutional post and he deserved respect from the Chairman as well as the Prime Minister. But he was not given that respect for which the entire Opposition was with him.
