PM asks NDA MPs to follow Parliament rules

New Delhi, July 2 (Representative) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday urged Members of Parliament (MPs) of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to follow “rules of Parliament and parliamentary democracy system.” The Prime Minister shared his advice with MPs at the NDA parliamentary meeting attended by senior leaders, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, among others. His remarks came a day after the ruling alliance criticized Lok Sabha’s Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi for delivering what they deemed “a most irresponsible” speech in the House. Briefing reporters after the meeting, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju said, “Today, the PM gave us a mantra which is very important. He said that every MP has been elected to the House to serve the nation. Irrespective of the party they belong to, service to the nation is our first responsibility.” “The PM urged NDA MPs to follow rules of the Parliament, parliamentary democracy system and conduct which is essential to becoming a good MP.

I think this guidance by the PM is a good mantra for all MPs, especially the first-time MPs.” Asked about Gandhi’s speech in Lok Sabha, Rijiju said, “The manner in which LoP Rahul Gandhi behaved yesterday, turned his back towards the Speaker”, violated rules and insulted the Speaker is something that people of our party, the NDA should not do. On Monday, Rahul attacked the NDA government over the Agniveer scheme, the NEET row, and the MSP issue. During his speech on “Motion of Thanks on President” address he said, “Those who call themselves Hindu only talk about violence, hatred, untruth.” Tuesday’s meeting of the NDA parliamentary party was the first meeting after the Prime Minister Modi’s election for a third term. The NDA meeting comes amid discussions in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha on the Motion of Thanks to President Droupadi Murmu’s address to a joint sitting of Parliament.
