Tiruchirapalli (Tamil Nadu), Apr 7 (Agency) Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National President Jagat Prakash Nadda on Sunday held a roadshow here backing Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (AMMK) candidate P.Senthilnathan, who is fighting from Tiruchirapalli Lok Sabha constituency. AMMK is a constituent of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA). Nadda, accompanied by senior BJP leaders and the AMMK candidate, was greeted by party workers, who gathered on both sides of the road, chanting “Bharat Matha Ki Jai” and “Meendum Modi, Vendum Modi” (Once again Modi, we want Modi) slogans. The BJP chief, standing in an open flower-decked vehicle, waved and cheered the party workers.
Tight security arrangements were made in view of the roadshow. Earlier, the Tiruchirapalli city police denied permission to the roadshow along the Big Bazaar Street, leading to the famous Rockfort Temple, citing among others, the communally sensitive nature of the area, narrow road and a temple festival. The district BJP moved the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court seeking court permission for the roadshow. The court ordered the police to grant permission after the authorities assured to allow an alternative route at Woraiyur locality. Nadda, who was on a day’s visit to Tamil Nadu ahead of the Lok Sabha polls, addressed election campaigns at Chidambaram, Karur and Virudhunagar.
