MCD election: 50 pc voter turnout till 5:30 pm

New Delhi, Dec 5 (Agency) The voter turnout for 250 wards of Municipal Corporation of Delhi was recorded at approximately 50 per cent till 5:30 pm, the State Election Commission informed on Sunday.BJP leader Dr Harsh Vardhan, Parvesh Verma, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi Minister Gopal Rai, Congress leaders Ajay Maken and Alka Lamba were among the leaders who cast their vote in the Delhi’s MCD election, while Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Ch. Anil Kumar could not cast his vote as his name was missing from the electoral rolls on Sunday. On this issue, a Delhi Congress delegation filed a complaint with the State Election Commission. All the leaders have appealed to the people to come out in large numbers to vote.Meanwhile, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Deputy CM Manish Sisodia cast their votes and also appealed to the Delhiites to cast their vote for a corruption free government.In a tweet, Kejriwal urged the people to vote for an honest party and good people.

“My appeal to all the Delhiites – do go to cast your vote today to form an honest government in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi,” Kejriwal wrote in a tweet. “Today the whole family went together and voted to form an honest government in the Municipal Corporation. Today is a holiday, you too must go and vote with your whole family. Ask your neighbors and acquaintances to vote too. Together we will make Delhi clean and beautiful,” Kejriwal added. Polling for 250 Wards of MCD was held today and the counting of votes will take place on December 7.A total of 1,349 candidates including 709 women and 640 male candidates are in fray for the MCD polls. Delhi State Election Commission made elaborate arrangements to ensure free and fair elections. The aerial surveillance by drones were conducted in several areas to ensure free and fair polling in Delhi.
