Kharge targets Modi, asks who’s accountable for Morbi bridge tragedy

Bengaluru, Nov 7 (Representative) Firing a salvo at Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Morbi bridge collapse, AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge on Sunday asked who is responsible for the tragedy, in which as many as 138 people lost their lives. “The Morbi bridge was repaired at a cost of Rs 2 crore. He (Modi) even inaugurated this project. I don’t know whether this is his ‘kai guna’ (quality of his hand), it collapsed in five days and 138 people died. Who is responsible for this? Has anyone tendered resignation? Did you (Modi) resign at least,” he said.Kharge was addressing Sarvodaya Samavesha organised by Karnataka Congress on the occasion of his maiden visit to the state capital after assuming AICC presidency. He said Modi had targeted West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee when a similar tragedy struck the state.

“When a bridge collapsed in West Bengal, Modi had claimed that it was the wrath of the Almighty over the ills of the state government. Who is responsible for the tragedy here (in Gujarat),” the incumbent AICC President said.Launching a tirade against the BJP government, Kharge alleged that it was stopping the good works of the UPA government or was renaming projects launched by it. “Modi says Congress has destroyed the country, but it is you who is destroying it,” he said, aiming at the “divisive politics” of the BJP. Further criticising the prime minister over his temple visits and praying in caves, Kharge said it does not solve the problems of inflation and unemployment.Urging party leaders and workers, Kharge urged them to bury the hatchet and work unitedly for the party’s victory in the runup to the assembly elections in Karnataka, which will be the best felicitation instead of holding such events.
